*SUMMARY ON TRENDS*
CHAPTER ONE
Chapter one looks at the nature, scope and functions of the indigenous Ghanaian education.
Margaret Gillet defines education as *"a tradition, preserving and transmitting of value, ideas and practices which have been proven over years worthwhile to the younger generation".*
Dzobo also came to highlight on the nature of the indigenous Ghanaian eduaction.
He said that the old education was a multi-valent type of education. He also emphasized that it was informal, less expensive and takes place everywhere.
Abosi and Amissah also contributed to the nature of the informal education by saying that, parents are the first educators of the little ones.
*MAJOR PURPOSE OF INDIGENOUS GHANAIAN EDUCATION*
1. Inculcating of good morals
2. Rite passage. Ie respect for tradition, decency in talking
3. Intellectual training. Ie poetry, proverb, reasoning
4. Physical training. Ie dancing, swimming, wrestling
5. Voactional training. Ie apprenticeship
*NB:*Vocational training is sub divided into;
*Agricultural training, Industrial training and Professional training*
*STRENGTHS OF INFORMAL EDUCATION*
1. Promotion of communialism
2. No unemployment
3. Multi-valent
4. Less expensive
5. Moral upbringing was vital
*WEAKNESS OF INFORMAL EDUCATION*
1. Lack of measurement
2. Figures and letters were not learnt
3. It focused only on group than individuals
4. Children were only observers
